I hope you all just read that to the tune of ‘U Can’t Touch This‘ because I sure did!
Now who here has thought of the best idea ever while falling asleep, on a run, or taking their third shot of the night? Now who claimed they will remember it the morning only to wake up hating yourself because you forgot it AGAIN! And now who here has ever been personally victimized by Regina George? 🙋🏼♀️
This is why I’m here to say, YOU WILL NOT REMEMBER YOUR GROUNDBREAKING IDEA! No matter how locked in you think you are, you are not.
Don’t worry, we have all been there, I have forgotten hundreds of my ‘epiphany’ level writing ideas! Drunk Rachie is creative as hell but not the most responsible (at least I’ve finally learned how to not blow $300 while drunk). And not even just drunk Rachie, but sleepy Rachie, too. Trust me when I say there is absolutely nothing that can get between me and sleep.
Just the other day I was out on a nice bike ride and about 6 miles in I exclaimed ‘shit, that’s a great idea!’ But I was stubborn and didn’t want to stop my ride and mess with my split time (just saying I hit 32.7 mph, yes that’s a flex) so I told myself to finish my ride and I’ll remember. I even had an argument with myself because a part of me knew I wouldn’t remember. But I rolled my eyes and told myself I was locked in.
Well, I should have listened to myself. At least the part that told me to write it down. Because I got home and beat myself up over the fact that I couldn’t remember. My sweet ass boyfriend reassured me saying that it would come back to me. Well here I am half a week later and it has not come back to me.

This is something many people face. Light bulbs don’t stay on forever and either do ideas.
I have my big ole’ Boss Lady notebook that I cherish with my every idea and thought (besides my bike ride one). I’ve been using it to organize my creative life. However, as you can see, it’s quite a hefty notebook. Not the easiest to bring to the bar or beach with me.

But that is why I bought this **adorable** notebook that was handmade in the UK. I’m a sucker for anything with bunnies on it and a sucker for a cute new notebook. So really, I could buy 100 of these and be happy.
The hopes of buying this new notebook is that it will be for these quick little ideas. To be able to bring it with me everywhere I go to just write whatever comes to my mind. Obviously I won’t “always” be able to have it on me, I complain about even having to bring my phone on my runs, don’t think I’ll be bringing a whole notebook! But even if I can’t bring it EVERYWHERE it will capture all of those mid-work, dinner party, shopping trip ideas.
I’m also going to put the work in to actually record my ideas. For now I will have to take out my phone and write in my notes BUT my amazing boyfriend has talked about us getting a nice Apple Watch for me so I can just spew them while riding.
We should honor our amazing ideas. Even if they turn out to be duds we explored them! And that’s really what writing and any creative outlet is about. Letting out what you are feeling and exploring yourself.
So here’s to our ever growing stack of notebooks and ideas. 🥂
I one hundred per cent said the title in my head like Hammer time. I have also (of course) been personally victimized by Regina George, who hasn’t. I tend to be one of those people who gets an idea and thinks I have to blurt out the whole thing start to finish, so if I can’t I’ve often let them go. Just recently I’ve started making some notes to revisit later when I have time and it is surprisingly refreshing. I feel like I have so much more on the go now, makes me way more productive to have one or two newborn ideas waiting to be picked up again. Loved everything about this post.

Thank you so much! And so glad someone else sees everything written as 90s songs! I’m totally with you on the ‘just blurting it out’ otherwise if I don’t, it never reads as I originally thought of it but then it also just turns into me rambling on about everything going on in my head. But I’ve been loving coming back to whatever notes I’ve made because then I have my initial perspective on whatever topic it is plus the perspective from my current mood and surroundings. Glad you liked it! 😀

I’ve started stashing pencils and paper next to my bed because I grew tired of losing the ideas I was so sure I’d remember the next day.
Of course, writing in the dark is a challenge of its own, but at least I can make something out of the scrawls, which beats beating myself up the next day over lost ideas.
Btw, pen and paper is awesome! Thanks for sharing this story.
